Description: The E-10A, also known as the Multi-sensor Command and Control Aircraft (MC2A), will provide airborne enhanced ground surveillance, persistent situational awareness, executable decision-quality information, targeting and cruise missile defense capabilities. It will comprise an advanced radar sensor (MP-RTIP), a battle management command an control (BMC2) subsystem and the Boeing 767-400ER airframe.

The US Air Force plans to field the first E-10A test bed in 2008 and four fully operational aircraft in 2012. The E-10s will complement the E-8C surveillance aircraft while providing advanced capabilities such as targeting and cruise missile defense. The E-10A could fulfill the Future Combat Systems (FCS) need for airborne platforms providing early warning and fire control/targeting data.

In September 2004, Northrop-Grumman was awarded two contract modifications totaling $232 million. A $170 million contract modification was awarded to extend one additional year the pre-System Design and Development (pre-SDD) phase. The second contract modification valued at $62 million was aimed at the Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) subsystem development. The BMC2 and MP-RTIP contracts complete the E-10A key elements development.

The US Air Force cancelled the E-10 MC2A aircraft program in 2006 due to budgetary shortages.
