The inclusion criteria for deagel's guide to Air Defense Systems is based on: tactical short, medium and long-range air defense missile systems (MEADS, S-300 and SAMP/T); anti-aircraft artillery (Tunguska); anti-ballistic missile defense (Patriot and S-300V); and strategic anti-ballistic missile defense (GMD).

Air defense systems provide protection against fixed- and rotary wing aircraft, standoff missiles, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
