Description:
Skyguard is a compact and autonomous ground-based short range air defense system intended to protect military facilities. The air defense system comprises a fire control/search radar unit, up to three 4-cell missile launchers and a twin-barrel 35mm gun. Skyguard battery fires Sparrow/Aspide missiles. More than 500 Skygurad air defense systems have been produced so far for Italy and international customers.
Spada 2000 is an improved variant of Skyguard ground based air defense system carried out by MBDA Italy under Spada/Skyguard mid-life upgrade (MLU). Spada 2000 has been optimized for rapid C-130J sized aircraft on/off loading following the requirements of the Italian Air Force. Performance against low flying airborne threats was improved as well as simultaneous firings of Aspide 2000 missiles against up to four targets.
Spada 2000 3D volumetric search radar has a coverage of 60 kilometers and is capable of tracking as many as 100 targets. Typically, the air defense system supports two 8-cell missile batteries but can be expanded to four missile batteries. Spada 2000's flexibility allows to take control of other anti-aircraft weapon systems such as medium-caliber guns. Operation at dense ECM and clutter environment is also possible.
