EL/L-8222

Origin
Israel

Contractor/s
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI)

Description: The EL/L-8222 is an Electronic Warfare (EW) system intended for fighter aircraft self-protection. It was developed by IAI's Elta Systems Group combining state-of-the-art technology with extensive operational experience. This protection system has been deployed by the Israeli Air Force and several other air forces worldwide.

The EL/L-8222 gives the capability to tactical fighter aircraft to operate in a dense threat environment. The system autonomously detects and classifies enemy radars and missiles. Once a trehat has been detected, the system emits electronic signals to jam and deceive the threat.

On 16 June 2005, Elta Systems Group was awarded a $10 million contract for the supply of the EL/L-8222 to a leading western country. A local defense contractor was involved and Elta anticipated follow-on orders.
