Description:
The MANpad Threat Avoidance (MANTA) System is an aircraft-mounted Directional Infrared Counter Measure (DIRCM) system developed in cooperation between Rosoboronexport of Russia and Indra Sistemas of Spain. The MANTA's laser system is capable of neutralizing all exiting types of infrared seekers in a multiple threats scenario. Its unique laser emits a high-energy beam in the spectral range of infrared emissions from the aircraft and missile seeker. The system was unveiled for the first time at the Farnborough International Air Show in July 2008.
The MANTA system comprises an infrared laser system, electro-optical (EO) warning and tracking sensors and a central processing unit (CPU). The EO module detects a threat acting as a missile warning systems, tracks the missile along its trajectory and point the laser beam onto it. The CPU controls the whole process. So far, the MANTA has completed all the industrial tests and entered into serial production. The industry team now focuses on system certification for its deployment aboard aircraft.
