E-2D Advanced Hawkeye

Description: The Advanced Hawkeye (AHE) radar is being developed by Lockheed-Martin to provide next-generation E-2C aircraft with enhanced warning and battle management capabilities. In August 2003, Lockheed-Martin was awarded a $413 million contract by Northrop-Grumman to begin the system development and demonstration phase (SDD).

The AHE radar will also meet the US Navy's requirements for littoral surveillance and theater air and ballistic missile defense missions. The Lockheed-Martin team includes Northrop-Grumman Electronic Systems and Raytheon Electronic Systems. Two Engineering Development Models and four pre-production radar systems will be used by Northrop-Grumman for qualification.

The new radar will fit into approximately the same space as the housing for the AN/APS-145, the current Hawkeye's radar system. The AHE radar will be more sophisticated and complex than the APS-145. The US Navy expects to had fully replaced the APS-145 radar on the 75 Advanced Hawkeye planned to be in service by 2020.
