EL/L-8265

IOC: 2005

EL/L-8265RWL

Origin
Israel

Contractor/s
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI)

Description: The EL/L-8265 is a new generation, compact Radar Warning and Locator (RWL) system developed by IAI's Elta Systems Group. It can effectively detect, identify, warn and accurately locate radar threats. It is flexible enough to operate using the existing Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) antennas for a given aircraft. Alternatively, it can be fitted with mission-specific antennas. Its functionality can be expanded encompassing radar jamming capabilities.

Originally, the EL/L-8265 was designed to operate in a complex radar environment with heavy clutter. The system itself works utilizing a combination of RWRs, Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and Electronic Intelligence (ELINT). Radar Doppler Beam Sharpening (DBS) technology enables to precisely locate a wide range of radar threats. In addition, the EL/L-8265 provides a tactical electronic order of battle in order to effectively engage the radar threat in the aircraft's area of operation.

In June 2006, IAI made public that was competing to supply the EL/L-8265RWL to an undisclosed country for integration on fighter aircraft. The deal had a potential value of tens of millions of dollars.
