Description: The Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) is an active electronically scanned array (AESA) fire control radar being developed by Northrop Grumman using its own funding to equip light tactical aircraft such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The SABR multi-function array will offer the same performance and advantages of AESA radars provided to 5th generation fighters such as F-22 and F-35, but at an affordable cost. The new SABR radar will support the F-16 platform worldwide until the end of its service life which is expected by 2040 or later.

The current SABR developmental model developed by Northrop Grumman is designed to accommodate F-16 electrical and physical interfaces without modification to the aircraft. SABR will fit within currently defined power and cooling requirements and support the existing pilot-vehicle interface. Although currently being designed for F-16, Northrop Grumman claims that the array is scalable and adaptable to other platforms and missions.
