Description: The Airbus A330 is a twin-engine, wide-body, long range airliner capable of carrying between 240 and 350 passengers over a range of 10,400 kilometers (5,600 nautical miles). It provides a high degree of comfort thanks to its spacious layout. The first ever A330 airliner, an A330-300 model, entered service in 1994. Externally, the A330 is similar to the Airbus A340 excepting for the number of engines because both were developed simultaneously by Airbus to meet the requirements of extended and long range commercial aviation in the 200- to 400-seat category. The A330/340 family features optimized performance and design for lower operating costs.
The A330 airliner family currently can be powered by Rolls Royce's Trent 700, General Electric's CF6-80E1 or Pratt & Whitney's PW4000 turbofan engines. In addition to its seating capacity, the A330 airliner can transport cargo (pallets or/and containers) thanks to its voluminous underfloor holds. The cargo capacity is very appreciated because generates additional revenues for the airline. In fact, some airlines have operated the A330 as a freighter with cargo and no passengers onboard at overnight flights. Airbus has also developed a dedicated freighter variant and a conversion program for existing A330 passenger aircraft.
The Airbus A330-900neo along with the A330-980neo are a new generation of the A330 aircraft family featuring Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 fuel-efficient engines, aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features. The A330-900neo widebody airliner is intended to carry 310 passengers on medium haul routes delivering 14 percent fuel savings per seat compared with the legacy A330 airplanes while boosting the range by 400 nautical miles (+700 kilometers). The A330-900neo is the successor to the A330-300 with a similar fuselage. The A330neos will feature the A350XWB winglets, increased wing span and new engine pylons. The cabin will offer 10 more 18-inch seats and fourth generation In Flight Entertainment (3D films), mood-lighting and full connectivity. First aircraft deliveries are due to start in the fourth quarter of 2017. Airbus launched the A330neo aircraft family at the opening day of the Farnborough airshow along with the Trent 7000 engine on July 14, 2014.
