Description: The Ilyushin Il-96 is a four-engine, wide-body, longer range passenger and freighter aircraft based upon the Il-86 airliner. The Il-96 aircraft features a fuselage shortened approx. 4 meters, a new wing layout, a seating capacity between 235 and 436 passengers, and fly-by-wire controls. The Il-96 wide-body aircraft family includes the Il-96-300 and Il-96-400 airliners and the Il-96T and Il-96-400T freighters. The Il-96 powered by western engines and the Il-98 twin-engine airliners were cancelled. The Il-96 maiden flight was carried out on September 28, 1988. In July 1993 the first Il-96-300 airliner entered into service.

The Il-96-400T is a stretched freighter version of the Il-96-300 airliner and features improved aerodynamics, fuel efficient PS-90A turbojet engines, increased payload capacity, improved frame design, and updated onboard avionics. The Il-96-400T is less expensive than its western counterparts such as the Boeing 777F freighter. The four PS-90A engines are rated at 16,000 kg/35,000-lb of thrust each. The Il-96-400T freighter can transport a payload of 92 tons on routes of up to 5,000 kilometers and payloads of 40 tons on routes of up to 12,000 km.
