Description: The Tu-334 is a short/medium range airliner developed by the Tupolev design bureau as a replacement for aging Tu-134 jetliners. It offers a greater seating capacity for up to 102-passenger over ranges of up to 3,000 kilometers compared to only 76 on the Tu-134. The Tu-334-100 performed its maiden flight on February 8, 1999. Tupolev developed the Tu-334 wit the aim to provide an commercial aircraft with outstanding flight performance and low operating costs. The Tu-334 and Tu-204 aircraft family feature a certain degree of commonality of components, units and systems. The same cockpit was provided to Tu-204 and Tu-334 airliners.

The basic Tu-334 airliner, the Tu-334-100, will be powered by two new generation Lotarev D-436T1 engines each rated at 16,500 pounds. The D-436 engines have been projected as fuel efficient and silent turbofans. Tupolev design bureau is currently developing a longer range version called Tu-334-100D (or Tu-334D) with an increased take-off weight and range over 4,000 kilometers. The Tu-334-100D would be powered by more powerful D-436T2 engines. The stretched Tu-334-200 powered by D-346T2 engines is a further version with a seating capacity for up to 126 passengers.

The Tu-334-120D would be powered by Rolls-Royce BR715-56 engines each rated at 20,000-lb of thrust and the aircraft equipped with western avionics. Further developments based on Rolls-Royce motorization includes: a stretched fuselage version with a seating capacity of 126 passengers (Tu-334-220) and a planned cargo variant. Aeroflot might be the launch customer for this new aircraft replacing its Tu-134 fleet and leased Boeing 737-400s.
