Origin: Ukraine
Contractor/s: Luch Design Bureau
Description: The Barer, also called Bar'er, is a subsonic anti-tank missile system developed by the Luch Design Bureau of Ukraine to destroy moving and stationary armored targets equipped with advanced ceramic armor and explosive reactive armor (ERA). The warhead is a tandem hollow charge. The Barer missile is also capable of taking out other targets such as weapon emplacements, a tank in a trench, light armored vehicles and helicopters. The missile design is very similar to the Skif missile also produced by Luch. Both Barer and Skif missiles look like advanced derivatives of the Soviet-era Konkurs anti-tank missile.
The Barer-V, or Bar'er-V, is an air-to-surface, subsonic, anti-tank guided missile designed to be launched from rotary wing aircraft such as the Mi-24. It offers greater range than the basic Barer missile while the missile itself is heavier and longer. The guidance system consists of laser beam with automatic target tracking using a thermal camera. The Barer-V missile can engage targets at ranges of up to 7,500 meters and penetrating reinforced armor with a thickness of 800 mm with a hit probability between 0.7 to 0.85.
