Description: Milan is a family of medium range anti-tank missiles developed by Euromissile, a joint venture between Germany and France, to be employed by two men or mounted on ground vehicles. It was introduced in 1970s as a second generation anti-tank weapon system. The weapon systems consists of Milan missile and the missile launch post. Its guidance system is based on Semi-Active Command-to-Line-Of-Sight (SACLOS) mode of operation using wire to link the missile and the launch post which provides anti-jam capability. Milan weapon system has been sold to more than 43 countries worldwide with more than 330,000 missiles and 10,000 firing units produced to date.

Milan family of missiles includes Milan 1, Milan 2, Milan 2T, Milan 3 and Milan ER. Milan 1 was deployed in the 1970s. Milan 2 features an improved launch post with a new sight system. Milan 2T introduced two tandem warhead to defeat targets protected with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). Milan 3 was introduced in 1996 and features upgraded kill potential and enhanced anti-jamming capability as well as Milan 2T tandem warhead. France, Cyprus and two other undisclosed armies are the only operators for Milan 3 missile. Milan ER will be developed between France and India and will provide enhanced capabilities as well as a longer range.
