Description:
The Short Range Assault Weapon Multi-Purpose Variant (SRAW-MPV) is a further development of US Marine Corps' Predator anti-armor weapon intended for urban engagements. It utilizes technologies and capabilities from Predator round while adding a new multi-purpose variant blast fragmentation warhead.
The SRAW-MPV changes the top-attack profile optimized for armored targets by a direct-fire mode fully compatible with launch from enclosures. The new blast fragmentation warhead can defeat urban targets such as buildings and bunkers, as well as light armored vehicles.
The LRIP I Predator rounds already delivered to the US Marine Corps and LRIP II rounds currently in production will be retrofitted with the new warhead. The modification works are expected to end later in 2004 with approximately 700 Predator rounds converted to SRAW-MPV rounds. The US Marine Corps would employ this new variant in Iraq.
The SRAW-MPV direct-fire urban assault weapon development leans on lessons learned during Operation Iraqi Freedom where the urban warfare has been demonstrated prevalent in today conflicts. Lockheed-Martin expects this weapon could be selected by US Army or US allies.
