Description: The THAAD-missile consists of a kill vehicle and a booster. The kill vehicle is powered by the Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) and provides high maneuverability to successfully achieve the hit-to-kill interception with the incoming ballistic missile. The kill vehicle also contains a state-of-the-art guidance system to successfully intercept short and medium range ballistic missiles.

The THAAD flight-testing series will be carried out between 2004 and 2009. The initial operational capability is expected in 2007. The missile will be manufactured at Lockheed-Martin's facilities in Troy, Alabama.

Wednesday, January 03, 2007 Missile Defense Agency (MDA) production contract for two THAAD ballistic missile defense systems awarded to Lockheed Martin in late 2006/early 2007. The two THAAD weapon systems also include 48 interceptors, six missile launchers, and two fire control and communications units. The contract was valued at $619 million and fielding starting in in fiscal year 2009.
