Description:
P-500 Bazalt is a supersonic, long-range, anti-ship cruise missile developed by the Soviet Union to engage NATO surface ships. It is powered by a liquid fuel motor and has an effective range of 550 kilometers at Mach 2+ carrying a 1,000 kg warhead. Alternatively, it could replace its conventional payload by a nuclear warhead of about 350 kilotons.
Due to its weight of 5 tons and span of more than 11 meters, Bazalt long-range missile was provided to large Soviet surface ships such as cruisers and aircraft carriers. NATO name for this weapon is the SS-N-12 Sandbox.
