Description:
MBDA Marte is a lightweight, fire and forget, multiplatform-launched, subsonic, sea-skimming anti-ship missile. It features a 70 kg semi-piercing warhead with high explosive effects detonated by impact or proximity. It was introduced in the 1980s with the Italian Armed Forces.
The Marte guidance system depends on the INS supported by GPS and a radar altimeter. In the terminal phase the missile is guided through inputs from an active radar homing seeker and performs evasive maneuvers to escape ship's close-in defenses. The missile is suitable for use in littoral warfare and heavy countermeasures environments.
The Marte Mk2/A is the fixed wing aircraft launched missile for use on Italy's AMX supporting naval operations.
