Description: RU-100, SS-N-16 Stallion, is an anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-surface ship (ASuW) weapon system that was designed to fit into Soviet Navy submarines and surface ships. It is a 650mm diameter weapon which poses a problem with majority of submarines equipped with 533mm torpedo tubes. RU-100 weapon system comprises a solid propellant rocket motor and a payload. Payload can be either a torpedo, nuclear charge or conventional warhead. Using a conventional warhead RU-100 performs as an anti-ship cruise missile. The Russian Navy utilizes this weapon system to engage surface and underwater targets at ranges between 50 and 100 kilometers.

RU-100 Veder armed with a conventional warhead/torpedo is referred to by NATO as SS-N-16A Stallion while SS-N-16B designation applies to nuclear depth charge variant which is known as the RU-100 Vodopod. Typically, Russian nuclear-powered attack submarines use RU-100 in combination with RPK-2, SS-N-15 Starfish, to confront targets at varying ranges. This weapon systems mixture is present in Akula, Sierra and Typhoon (NATO names) nuclear-powered submarines in service with the Russian Navy.
