Description: The AMV 8x8 (Armored Modular Vehicle) is a medium-weight, wheeled, modular vehicle designed to carry out a wide range of missions related to mechanized units. The vehicle features excellent on/off road mobility with low life cycle costs due to parts commonality, while offers high protection against ballistic threats and land mines. Its weight varies between 14 and 24 tons depending on the selected configuration. The AMVs are powered by a single Scania Diesel engine DI 12 rated at 480-hp, nevertheless other engines can be negotiated. Reduced signatures and add-on armor are the keys of the vehicle's survivability. They feature ballistic protection against up to 30mm rounds. These vehicles are enabled to integrate guns ranging 7.62mm up to 105mm, and 120mm mortar (AMOS). The first AMV 8x8 vehicles was declared operational with the Finnish Army in 2004.

The AMV 8x8 high modularity has made possible three models of the AMV vehicle: basic model, system platform and module carrier. The AMV basic model includes APC, IFV, C2, ambulance, reconnaissance, AMOS, FCV, ATGM and MGS. The AMV SP (System Platform) features a larger and higher rear compartment which allows to work inside the vehicle. The AMV SP is suitable for C3, large ambulance and workshop. The AMV MC (Module Carrier) mounts on the same AMV chassis ready containers/modules containing weapons or other logistic payloads. In late August 2005, Patria showed up for the first time the 6x6 version of the AMV wheeled vehicle during MSPO Exhibition in Poland.

The AMV 8x8 vehicles have already been ordered by the Finnish and the Polish armies, many other countries, such as Czech Republic; Croatia; Portugal; Brazil; South Africa; Belgium; Slovakia and Greece, tested the AMV vehicle for their rapid reaction forces. The Polish Ministry of Defense announced that Patria AMV vehicles successfully passed the final tests on November 19, 2004. In 2004, nine Patria AMV vehicles were scheduled to be transferred to Poland and another 89 vehicles in 2005. As of 2005, production will be progressively transferred to Poland where the vehicles will be assembled through 2013. AMV 8x8 is designated KTO by the Polish Army.

On December 22, 2004, Patria was awarded a 96 million Euro contract from the Finnish Defence Force for 62 AMV 8x8 armored vehicles integrated with heavy machine gun turrets. Deliveries are due between 2006 and 2007. These vehicles will be equipped with the Kongsberg's weapons control system valued at MNOK145. The same weapon control system was already ordered for the armies of Australia, Norway, the United States and now Finland. On June 12, 2006, the Slovenian Ministry of Defense selected Patria AMV wheeled armored vehicle as the preferred bidder for its armored vehicle program. Pending contract negotiations, Patria announced that the program scope was for 136 vehicles in four variants to be delivered between 2007 and 2011.
