Description: The Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) was developed by India to provide enhanced survivability, lethality and fire on the move capability to Indian Army's armored units. It is an indigenous development started in 1971 with some parts supplied by foreign corporations. Externally, the Arjun MBT looks like Germany's Leopard 2 A4 and Japan's Type 90 MBTs.

The Arjun MBT Mark-I features a 120mm main gun, one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and a 12.7mm machine gun. It is powered by a single MTU multi-fuel diesel engine rated at 1,400-hp. Arjun's crew comprises only 4-man: commander, gunner, loader and driver.

The Arjun entered service with the Indian Army between 2000-2005/2006. An initial order was placed for more than 120 (124? or 130?) Arjuns with subsequent orders anticipated. The Arjun total production remains doubtful due to reported performance shortfalls and Russian T-90s acquired by India in the late 1990s and production under license agreements singed in the early 2000s. The Indian Army took delivery of five tanks in 2005 with another nine tanks delivered in May 2007. The remaining Arjun tanks were delivered to the Indian Army by 2009-2010. In May 2010 India placed an order for 124 additional Arjun Mark-I main battle tanks.
