Description: The BMPT-72, also known as Terminator-2, is a fire support fighting vehicle combining the T-72 main battle tank (MBT) chassis and the original BMPT Terminator combat modules. UralVagonZavod production association is marketing the BMPT-72 as an extensive modernization alternative for existing operators of T-72 tanks. The Russian Army took the decision of developing the T-90 based BMPT after their experience in Chechnya and specially heavy toll they had to pay in terms of tanks destroyed during the battle of the city Grozny. Military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) and/or guerrilla warfare are a challenging scenario for traditional heavy tanks and a fire support fighting vehicle such as BMPT is the right answer along with modifications for existing tanks. UralVagonZavod introduced the BMPT-72 Terminator-2 at the Russian Arms Expo (RAE) exhibition in September 2013.

The Terminator-2 is provided with a remotely controlled unmanned turret equipped with multichannel optical and thermal cameras, low level TV sight and fire control system. The sensor array is designed to operate day/night in all weather conditions detecting and recognizing small targets at long ranges. The BMPT-72 is armed with two 2A42 30mm cannons, two AG-17D 30mm grenade launchers, four launchers for 130mm Ataka-T anti-tank guided missiles, a 7.62mm machine gun, and two 81mm smoke grenade launchers.
