Description: The T-90, Object 188 industrial name, is a Main Battle Tank (MBT) evolved from the Red Army's T-72 in the late 1980s. It has been designed to engage enemy armored vehicles, troops, fortifications and low-flying helicopters in day/night and all-weather conditions. Its main armament is a 125mm 2A46M-2 smoothbore gun which can fire a variety of rounds as well as anti-tank missiles, a coaxial PKT 7.62mm machine gun, and a NSV 12.7mm machine gun for anti-aircraft purposes. The 125mm gun features an autoloader system with 22+20 rounds. The first prototype was produced in 1989 and serial production of the Russian Army T-90A model started in 1992.

The T-90M represents the third generation of the T-90 main battle tank (MBT) used by the Russian Armed Forces. It leverages several technologies developed for the T-14 main battle tank such as the 125mm 2A82-1M automatic loading cannon with 45 projectiles, the Vaccuum-1 (APFSDS) anti-tank round, slat armor against rocket propelled grenades and the Afghanit active protection system against a variety of anti-tank missiles and anti-tank rounds. Besides, the new tank will include the Malakhit explosive reactive armor (ERA) and is capable of firing Invar and Invar-M tandem-charged anti-tank guided missiles. The T-90M advanced fire control system features higher precision and higher rate of fire as well as hunter-killer capability for the tank's gunner and commander on the move or stationary day/night and in adverse weather condition. Uralvagonzavod production association introduced the first pictures of the T-90M tank in January 2017. The Russian Army plans call for the upgrade of 400 T-90A tanks to the T-90M standard by 2020. The final production T-90M lacks the Afganit active protection system and the 2A82-1M cannon as well as other Armata-related technologies.
