Description: The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Type 09 or ZBD09 is a 8x8 wheeled modular armored vehicle family intended to serve at the Brigade level. The Type 09 8x8 platform development started in early 2009 as the Chinese counterpart to the United States Army Stryker wheeled armored vehicle family. The basic Type 09 vehicle is 8 meters long and weighs 21 tons with a maximum range of 800 kilometers on road. The vehicle's top speed on road is 100 kilometers per hour. It features a crew of three-man and carries up to seven fully equipped infantrymen. The vehicle is water sealed and features waterjets to support amphibious operations with a maximum speed of 8 kilometers per hour on water. The first units equipped with the new armored vehicle entered service within the PLA in October 2009 and several versions have been fielded since. The ZBD09 vehicles are meant to become the backbone of China's rapid reaction forces. These vehicles are powered by a Deutz Mainz turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine developing 340 KW of power. These vehicles also feature air conditioning and vibration reduction system.
The Type 09 Satellite Communications (SATCOM) is intended to provide long range satellite-based communications to large ground formations deployed worldwide.
