Description: The Bavar 373, Belief 373 in English, is an indigenous medium-range air defense system being developed by the Islamic Republic of Iran as a replacement for the aborted sale of the Russian S-300PMU1 air defense systems in September 2010. The $800 million contract for the supply of five S-300 missiles systems (battalions) was signed with Russia in late 2007. In April 2012, the Iranian Minister of Defense announced that the Bavar 373 development was underway and that it would more advanced and powerful than the Russian S-300 missile system. No test firings of the new air defense system have been reported and its entry into service could be targeted at the end of this decade (2020). Iran test fired the Bavar-373 for the first time in August 2014 and stated that the system had the capability to track up to 100 airborne targets simultaneously.
