Description: The M-SAM (Multi-function Surface to Air Missile), also known as Cheolmae II, is a low and medium altitude air defense system to replace current Hawk SAMs within the Republic of Korea Army. It has been designed to engage both aircraft and missiles at ranges of 30-60 kilometers. The program already underwent full scale development stage in the 2000s with production starting after 2009. The Republic of Korea may have put into active duty the first M-SAM mid-range air defense system equipped with KM-SAM missiles beginning in 2011. The M-SAM is expected to enter service in 2018 or 2019.
