Description: The US Army Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) system is a high energy laser weapon system intended to take out unmanned aerial vehicles as well as other airborne threats. The M-SHORAD solution developed by Northrop Grumman is expected to be integrated onto the Stryker wheeled platform in frontline combat units. In July 2019 the M-SHORAD program was expected to use a 50 KW directed energy weapon for integration on the first prototypes. The US Army is developing this new short-range air defense system under the Multi-Mission High Energy Laser (MMHEL) initiative.
