Description: The M270 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) is a highly mobile advanced artillery system providing strike capability against air defense systems, enemy artillery, armored formations and other high value targets deep inside enemy territory. Currently he M270 can fire both rockets and missiles, but in the future would be possible the addition of smart weapons to that list. The M270 is a derivative of the proven M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The M270 retains the chassis of the M2. The crew of 3 can fire 12 rockets or 2 ATACMS from inside the cab leaving the fire location to avoid the counterfire. The M270 is autonomous, containing all equipment necessary to load, aim and fire the rockets or missiles.

The M270A2 is an upgraded variant of the M270 multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) developed by Lockheed Martin and expected to enter service by 2022 within the US Army. The A2 standard features new engines, transmission, launcher-loader modules, improved armored cabs and the new common fire control system. The first batch of 50 M270A2 upgrade kits was ordered through a $362 million contract on April 22, 2019 with deliveries expected to complete by 2022. The US Army plans call for the upgrade of 225 existing M270A1 and 160 decommissioned M270A0 rocket launchers in throughout the 2020s to be kept into active duty through at least 2050.
