Description: The PCL-181 is a high mobility 155mm self-propelled howitzer developed to meet the requirements of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) as the replacement for the PL-66 152mm and Type 59-1 130mm towed howitzers. It has been designed to provide similar firepower than tracked chassis 40-ton self-propelled howitzers. Besides its high mobility, the howitzer design is lightweight and compact enough to allow to PCL-181 units to be airlifted inside a single Y-20 heavy lift transport aircraft. The 6x6 wheeled vehicle weighs 25 tons and can accommodate the six-member crew inside the spacious cab. The PLA first fielded the PCL-181 artillery system in April 2020.
