Description: The PLZ-83, also known as Type 83, is a 152mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) developed by China in the 1970s and 1980s entering service within the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1983. The PLZ-83 is being considered as the Chinese counterpart of the Soviet 2S1 howitzer. It is capable of firing conventional artillery projectiles as well as guided Krasnopol 152mm artillery shells and other guided artillery projectiles developed domestically by China. The Chinese Army procured 78 howitzers between 1983 and 1990. Despite the PLZ-05 being the replacement for the PLZ-83, the later remains in active service within the PLA as of late 2018.
