Description: The PLZ-89, also known as Type 89, is a 122mm self-propelled howitzer developed by China in the late 1980s entering into active duty with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1999. The PLZ-89 is similar to the Soviet 2S1 self propelled howitzer utilizing the Type 77 amphibious vehicle tracked chassis and a semi-automatic loader. The Chinese weapon system has a maximum range of 18 kilometers but can be extended to 21 kilometers using rocket assisted projectiles. The vehicle is fitted with a roof-mounted 12.7mm machine gun and Nuclear, Bacteriological and Chemical (NBC) protection system. The PLA and the Marines received several hundred PLZ-89 artillery systems through the 2000s.
