Description: Roland/Roland 2 is a mobile modular air defense system deployed in support of battlefield armored units which require an effective anti-aircraft weapon system. It is capable of shooting down fixed-wing aircraft flying at Mach 1.5 below 5,500 meters of altitude and hovering helicopters. Basically, Roland weapon system is integrated onto a turret. The turret comprises a search radar, infrared sight system and Roland missile tubes. Typically there are two Roland missiles ready for launch and eight in stowage.

Roland weapon system has been integrated onto tracked chassis. France and Spain deployed their Rolands on the AMX-30 main battle tank chassis. Germany utilized the Marder infantry fighting vehicle chassis. In addition, Roland can be installed on fixed positions providing short range air defense coverage for high value assets.
