Description: The WS/WeiShi is a family of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) developed by Sichuan Aerospace Industry Corporation (SCAIC) starting in the late 1980s to meet the requirements of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and export customers. The WS family comprises short-range to ultra long-range rocket systems with the rocket caliber varying from 122mm to 400mm. The first version, WS-1, was tested by the PLA in the early 1990s but did not pass the qualification tests and subsequently did not receive any production order. Three additional versions were developed by SCAIC through the early 2000s with no production order from PLA or export customer confirmed yet.

The WS-2 is an ultra long-range multiple launch rocket system introduced by SCAIC in the early 2000s. The WS-2 launch vehicle is based on a 8x8 armored chassis equipped with six launch tubes. The WS-2 400mm rockets can engage targets at a maximum range of 200 km. The rocket minimum firing range is 70 km. Each rocket weighs 1,285 kg, carries a 200 kg warhead, is 7.3 meters in length and flies at Mach 5.6 powered by a solid rocket motor. Due to its longer range the WS-2 rocket features an accurate navigation system to balance a greater Circular Error Probable (CEP). The rocket can be fitted with a variety of warheads to take out a wide spectrum of targets.
