Description: The Japan Marine Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Enoshima-class of coastal minesweepers is a variant of the Hirashima-class minesweeper optimized for operations in shallow water. The vessel's hull is longer and wider but features a shorter draft compared with Hirashima thus making it suitable for shallow water environments. This minesweeper has been designed to clean waterways of mines in support of naval forces operating in the open sea or in the littoral environment. The 570-ton vessel is fitted with a propulsion system allowing a top speed of 14 knots. The propulsion system consists of two diesel engines developing 2,200-shp. The vessel is equipped with a 20mm gun and minesweeping equipment. The JMSDF commissioned the first vessel of this class in 2011 with a few more ships expected to follow.
