Description: The Italian Navy Gaeta, also known as Lerici II, is an enlarged version of the Lerici class of minehunters commissioned in 1985. The vessel's hull is made of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) minimizing the risk of activating/detonating magnetic mines. Their propulsion system features one one diesel engine developing 1,985-bhp of power and a top speed of 14.3 knots. The sensor package consists of the SSN-7M and Type 2048 minehunting sonars. These vessels are equipped with a single 20mm gun. The Italian Navy commissioned eight vessels between 1993 and 1998. This technology derived from the Lerici I class was also provided to the Navies of the United States, Nigeria, Thailand and Malaysia. Malaysia bought four Lerici I vessels in the 1980s. The Royal Thai Navy ordered two vessels in the 1990s.
