Description:
The SM 343 Hameln-class are non-magnetizable steel hull vessels designed in the 1980s to serve as fast minesweepers in the German Navy. Its propulsion system consists of two diesels, two shafts developing 4,080 KW of power and allowing a top speed of 18 knots. Type 434 ships are equipped with two 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns, mine laying equipment with 60 mines, DSQS-11 minehunting sonar, and two launchers for Stinger missiles. The German Navy commissioned ten hulls between 1989 and 1991.
Between 1999 and 2001, the ten vessels of this class underwent a major modification program which divided them into two classes, with five hulls each, suitable for minehunting (MJ 333) and drone control vessels role (HL 352) as part of the Troika system. The MJ 333 Kulmbach class are minehunters equipped with two SeaFox mine disposal underwater vehicles.
