Description:
The SAM 3 is an autonomous, highly effective, remote-controlled minesweeper developed by Kockums for the Swedish Navy and export customers which already own previous generations SAM Mine-Countermeasures (MCM) systems. The SAM 3 has been designed for sweeping of influence mines using acoustic and magnetic sensors including buried mines. The system is specially suitable for clearing ports and sea lines of communication in the littoral environment. The SAM 3 remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) can simulate a variety of sizes of ships without risking the lives of the crew or valuable ships. The system can operated in both shallow (3 meters) and deep waters (up to 60 meters). A single ship or a ground control station can take full control of up to four SAM 3 ROVs.
The SAM 3 propulsion system consists of two diesel engines developing 140 Kw each and allowing a maximum speed of 12 knots. Using a sweep speed of 8 knots the vessel has a range of 300 nautical miles. Its catamaran design hull is made of composite material.
