Description: The Countermeasure System (CMS) is a cluster munition combining the JDAM navigation system and a warhead delivering more than 4,000 neutralizer darts at a predetermined altitude. The new guided munition, which will be released on beach and surf zone, is intended to help minimize mine-related combat losses during amphibious landings carried by the US Marine Corps (USMC). The US Navy will use the new weapon aboard tactical fighters to perform localized mine neutralization, while the US Air Force (USAF) will use its strategic bombers (B-52H, B-1B and B-2A) to clear assault lanes. Boeing was awarded a $153 million contract by the US Navy for its design and development on August 8, 2008. The CMS weapon is planned for fielding by 2016.
