Description:
Bombardier Challenger is a family of twin-engine, medium-size corporate jet with a seating capacity ranging from 8 to 50 passengers. Passengers can afford enough room to conference and work while enjoying the aircraft's comfortable cabin. The Challenger fills the gap between the smaller Learjet and the huge Global which is more suitable for intercontinental trip rather than US coast-to-coast flights in the Bombardier product line portfolio. Challenger family also outstands by its reliability and long term service.
The Bombardier Challenger 604 outstands by its comfort and spacious cabin which is the widest in the Challenger corporate jet class. It is powered by two CFM International CF34-3B turbofan engines rated at 9,220 pounds each. With a crew of three and up to 19 passengers, Challenger 604 is capable of cruising at Mach 0.8 over a distance of 6,878 km. Cruising at Mach 0.74 Challenger 604 has a maximum range of 7,458 km.
On 17 November 1997, TAG Aeronautics placed an order for five Challenger 604 and five Global Express business jets with aircraft deliveries expected to begin in 1998 and 1999 respectively. This agreement was valued at $250 million. On 20 January 1998, the Danish Air Force placed an order for one Challenger 604 business jet to support Danish government transportation. Challenger 604 delivery was scheduled for mid 1999 and two additional aircraft options were set for 2000.
On 16 June 1999, the Republic of Korea placed an order for one Challenger 604 modified to conduct maritime surveillance missions. Aircraft delivery was expected in 2001. On 16 November 1999, Bombardier sold two Challenger 604 to the Royal Jordanian Air Force which were slated for delivery during 2000. On 16 August 2000, the government of Australia selected Challenger 604 business jet. Up to three jets were expected to the delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) beginning in 2002.
On 7 September 2000, South Africa's Kangra Aviation ordered a Challenger 604 with delivery due in 2001. On 13 February 2001, Shandong Airlines Rainbow Jet placed an order for four Challenger 604 widebody business jets. The agreement was valued at $100 million and aircraft deliveries were slated to commence in March 2002. On 18 May 2001, Bombardier and London Air Services signed an agreement for one Challenger 604.
On 26 September 2001, Swiss REGA signed a contract for three Challenger 604 jets to be customized in air ambulance configuration and delivered from June 2002. On 19 January 2004, US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered one and two optional Challenger 604 widebody aircraft.
