Bombardier Global is a family of twin-engine, high-speed, intercontinental, widebody business jet intended for long- and ultra long-range routes while offering the highest level of comfort. Bombardier Global belongs to the super-large business jet category and features the widest and most spacious cabin. Bombardier Global includes Global 5000 and Global Express business jets. In addition to VIP transport, the Global is available for military applications such as the United Kingdom ASTOR/Sentinel ground surveillance aircraft which is based on the Global Express.
Bombardier Global 5000 is powered by two Rolls Royce Deutschland BR710A2-20 turbofan engines rated at 14,750 pounds of thrust. The aircraft cruises at Mach 0.85 or Mach 0.89 and has a maximum range in excess of 8,800 kilometers carrying eight passengers and crew of three. In a high density interior configuration the luxurious Global 5000 can transport as many as 19 passengers. Runways as long as 1,500 meters are required for taking off and just 830 meters long for landing which translates into Global 5000 ability to operate from shorter airfields than competition.
Global 5000 business jet is equipped with the latest communications, connectivity and entertainment technology for living, working and enhancing productivity. The resulting sophisticated cabin provides a quiet atmosphere. Its 4,800 nautical miles (8,800+ km) range makes possible to conduct nonstop flights from Europe to Central America and many other intercontinental routes linking cities such as Paris, New York, Tokyo, Dubai, Mexico City, etc. The program was launched in 2001 and the first Global 5000 entered revenue service with an operator three years later in 2004.
On 5 November 2001, TAG Aeronautics became the launch customer for the Global 5000 signing a letter of intent for five aircraft to be delivered from 2004. On 28 February 2002, Hong Kong-based Sino Private Aviation Limited signed a letter of intent for Global 5000. On 19 October 2004, US FAA purchased one Global 5000 that was expected to be delivered in 2005.
On 19 July 2006, United Aviation of Libya signed a purchase agreement with Bombardier Aerospace for a Challenger 300 and a Bombardier Global 5000 business jets. The aircraft were valued at $55 million. The signing was carried out at the Farnborough air show.
