Bombardier Global is a family of twin-engine, high-speed, intercontinental, widebody business jet intended for long- and ultra long-range routes while offering the highest level of comfort. Bombardier Global belongs to the super-large business jet category and features the widest and most spacious cabin. Bombardier Global includes Global 5000 and Global Express business jets. In addition to VIP transport, the Global is available for military applications such as the United Kingdom ASTOR/Sentinel ground surveillance aircraft which is based on the Global Express.
Bombardier Global Express XRS, based on the Global Express, was designed to provide the most luxurious in a business jet. It includes an improved cabin pressurization system to reduce crew/passenger in-flight fatigue. The Global Express XRS offers higher cabin comfort, enhanced performance and further advanced technology for increased productivity. Moreover, it can fly faster and farther than any of its predecessors. The Global Express can fly 5,450 nautical miles (10,000+ km) nonstop at Mach 0.87 or 6,150 nautical miles (11,370 km) at Mach 0.85 carrying eight passenger and four crew.
Both ultra long range Global Express and Global Express XRS business jets are powered by two Rolls Royce BR710A2-20 turbofan engines rated at 14,750-lb each. The Enhanced Vision System (EVS), which comes as standard equipment, helps pilots navigate unfamiliar airports with confidence. Global Express/XRS require runways of approximately 1,800 meters long. Originally Bombardier Global Express XRS was set to enter service in January 2006. Finally, the aircraft type entered into service on December 10, 2005 ahead of scheduled date.
On 17 November 1997, TAG Aeronautics placed an order for five Challenger 604 and five Global Express business jets with aircraft deliveries expected to begin in 1998 and 1999 respectively. This agreement was valued at $250 million. On 26 November 1999, Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) ordered one Global Express equipped with special interior cabin. The aircraft was due for delivery in 2001. On 8 December 2003, Qatar Airways purchased two Global Express jets and took options on two more aircraft. Aircraft deliveries were due during 2004.
On June 15, 2006, Vancouver-based (Canada) London Air Services placed an order for one Bombardier Global Express XRS ultra-long range business jet. The aircraft was scheduled to be delivered in 2008.
