Description:
The Helios is a earth observation satellite owned by France and jointly sponsored by Italy (14%) and Spain (7%). The satellite operates at an altitude of 700 kilometers on a polar sun-synchronous orbit and has been equipped with a CCD-TV imaging sensor with an estimated resolution of one meter.
The main ground control station is located in France, but there are other minor control stations located in the other partner countries: Italy and Spain. However, France remains the most priority user of Helios earth observation system with the wider access to data collected by the Helios satellites.
The first Helios satellite, Helios 1A, was launched in 1995 and the second one, Helios 1B, was put into orbit in 1999.
