Description: The Transformational Communications MILSATCOM (TCM) Space Segment intends to provide the US military with 21st century secure, broadband, global communications supporting network-centric warfare vision. It will incorporate laser communications, new routing processors to assist thousands of users and other breakthroughs.

The TCM system will network warfighters, weapons, sensors, communications command and control nodes located on UAVs, manned aircraft, on the ground, in the air, at sea, or in space.

In 2004, The USAF awarded to two industry bidders a $472 million contract to each one for TCM risk reduction and system definition through 2006, when a single contractor will be selected to carry out the TCM communications network.
