Description: The 3S-97 is a modular, universal, vertical launching system (VLS) developed to meet the requirements of the Russian Navy in support of the Poliment-Redut ship-based air defense system. The 3S-97 VLS is available in six and eight-cell variants and is fully compatible with the 9M96 medium-range surface-to-air missile family (one missile per cell) and 9M100 (four missiles per cell) short-range surface-to-air missile family. The new missile launchers are being provided to a wide range of surface combatants ranging from corvettes, frigates, destroyers and battle cruisers. The Russian Navy first deployed the 3S-97 launchers with the Project 20380 class corvettes in 2011 and is expected to integrate them onboard Project 22350 class frigates, Project 22350M class destroyers and Project 11442M class cruisers.
