Description: The Carl-Gustaf is a 84mm recoilless, dependable multipurpose man-portable weapon for close-in direct fire attacks introduced in 1948. The key of this weapon system is the wide range of ammunitions developed to carry out different mission profiles as well as a variety of sight options. The Carl Gustaf can be operated by a two-man crew, gunner and loader, responding quickly to each new threat. The Carl-Gustaf M1 was introduced in 1948 with the M2 and M3 variants introduced later on. The M2 version launch unit weighs 14.2 kg and is 1130mm long. The M3 version launch unit weighs 10 kg and is 1065mm long. The Carl-Gustaf ammunition round typically weighs less than 5 kg.

More than 40 country customers worldwide have ordered this weapon system which is well suited for light infantry applications. The Carl-Gustaf weapon system was ordered by the United States (US) military under the M3 MAAWS designation. As of 2014 the M3 is the only production standard available from Saab.
