Description: The Dutch Digitized Soldier System (D2S2) program is intended to bring the digitized battlefield environment benefits to Dutch infantrymen. The D2S2 system comprises communications, a processing unit, user-friendly interfaces and commander's interactive displays. Its modular and open architecture will ensure rapid insertion of future upgrades.

In later October 2004 Thales joined D2S2 project through a contract awarded by the Nethelands's Ministry of Defense. Thales and the Netherlands' MoD along with TNO ( the Netherlands' Organization for Applied Scientific Research) will take care of this project. The first prototypes are scheduled to enter evaluation in 2005. The first production D2S2s deliveries to Dutch Army units has been slated to 2006, thereafter achieving initial operational capability.
