Description: The Fancopter is a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) micro unmanned air vehicle (UAV) developed to perform real-time, day/night reconnaissance and surveillance missions in urban terrain and inside buildings. Powered by electric motors that drive two 60 cm rotors the micro-UAV has a flight endurance of 25 minutes or 3 hours of observation while perching feeding on its batteries. The Fancopter can be fitted with a variety of sensors such as CCD-TV video cameras, infrared cameras, microphone, chemical sensors or radioactivity sensors. As of October 2008, the German Armed Forces had ordered 21 Fancopter systems with the first one delivered in late 2006.
The Fancopter micro air vehicle is controlled by means of a miniaturized control station with both portable in a backpack. A two-day data-link was provided as standard equipment to communicate between the air vehicle and the control station but it can be replaced by a glass fiber module in radio shade areas or in shielded structures.
