Description: The GAU-12/U is a five-barrel 25mm Gatling gun developed to fit into airborne and ground-based platforms. With a muzzle velocity in excess of 1,000 meters per second and a rate of fire of 4,200 rounds per minute this gun system provides an effective low cost weapon for a wide range of mission profiles from air-to-surface to air-to-air engagements. General Dynamics introduced the GAU-12 multi-barrel gun system in the early 1970s to serve in a variant of platforms. The GAU-12/U gun has been integrated on land platforms such as the US Marine Corps (USMC) Light Armored Vehicle Air Defense variant (LAV-AD), sea platforms and airborne platforms such as the USMC AV-8B Harrier V/STOL aircraft and the US Air Force AC-130U gunship.
