Description: The S&T Daewoo K11 Dual-barrel Air-burst Weapon (DAW), also known as the Advanced Individual Weapon System, is an advanced assault riffle combining a 5.56x45mm gun and a 20x30mm air-burst grenade launcher. This dual barrel riffle was developed to meet the requirements of the Republic of Korea Army (RoKA) for the replacement of K2 riffles fitted with K201 underslug grenade launchers. The K11 development started in 2006 and production of 4,000 riffles started in 2008 and concluded in 2014. Some defects were detected on weapons fielded in the Afghanistan theater but lately they were fixed. The K167 20mm round is provided with three selectable detonation modes allowing to explode on impact, time fused after the impact or a few meters before the target with air-burst effect. The 20mm ammunition allows to kill people within 6 meters from the detonation point and wound people within 8 meters from the detonation point. The K11 is fitted with laser range finder and night vision thermal camera.
The 20mm air-burst component features a 405mm barrel in length, has a magazine for 5 rounds, a muzzle velocity of 200 meters per second and a maximum range of 500 meters. The K168 is a 20mm training round. The 5.56mm component features a 310mm barrel, a maximum rate of fire of 700 rounds per minute, a 960 meters per second muzzle velocity and a maximum range of 300 meters. All in, the combat-ready K11 advanced assault riffle weighs 6.8 kg. The RoKA has deployed two K11-equipped infantrymen within each squad.
