Description: The M240 is a 7.62x51mm medium machine gun for use by infantry units which was developed in Belgium by FN Herstal and manufactured in the United States by FN America. It was adopted by the United States Armed Forces as the replacement for the M60 7.62mm machine gun. Several countries have also fielded the new machine gun for either police or military forces. The M240 machine was designed for use by the infantryman but nevertheless has been integrated into ground vehicles, watercraft and aircraft. The M240B features a bipod and the M240G version is provided with a tripod. The M240 machine provides a maximum rate of fire of 650 rounds per minute and a maximum effective range of 600 meters despite the maximum nominal range being 3,725 meters. The machine gun was provided as secondary armament for the M1 Abrams, M2 Bradley and LAV-25 armored vehicles.
