Description: The Raytheon MK 56 is a vertical launch system designed as one of various launch systems for the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM). Mk 56 features a lightweight design and is specially qualified for the ESSM accommodating from four to 16 missiles depending upon launching system configuration. This launching system can be integrated into both small and/or large vessels. The United States Navy and the Royal Danish Navy conducted qualification live fire tests of ESSM using MK 56 launching system. It has been reported that the Royal Danish Navy intends to procure the MK 56 launching system for its F370 or ABSALON frigates.

On October 20, 2004, Raytheon released that an agreement was concluded with ADSB shipyards in the United Arab Emirates to provide MK 56 launching systems for four Baynunah corvettes with options for two additional vessels. The agreement also included associated services and equipment.
